Why he might be annoying:

After injuring his left foot (2014), he dropped out of sight for two years, initially spending his time chain smoking and drinking heavily.
He recalled that even before the injury he had gotten bored performing the same roles and spent rehearsals watching the clock.
He starred in a Nike ad (2017).
His planned farewell tour with the American Ballet Theater was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Why he might not be annoying:

Growing up, he was bullied over his love of ballet.
He was the first American invited to be a principal dancer for the Bolshoi Ballet.
’New Yorker’ magazine called him ‘the most exciting male dancer in the western world.’
He successfully rehabbed from his ankle injury and said about his return to the stage, ‘I feel like a completely different artist…. You don’t know gratitude until something’s been taken away from you.’
He funded a scholarship for male dancers and created the ABT Incubator for emerging choreographers.
