    70 year old man who while hiking was attacked by a mountain lion and rescued by his wife (January 24, 2007)
    Attacked at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park in Humboldt County, California
    Resides in Fortuna, California

Why he might be annoying:

    Despite being experienced hikers they carried no protection from animal encounters during outings.
    During the mountain lion attack Jim had to depend on his wife to rescue him.
    He received a torn scalp and puncture wounds in the attack which required surgery.
    It may take nearly one year for him to recover from his injuries.

Why he might not be annoying:

    Before the mountain lion attack he was healthy and athletic.
    He and his wife usually hiked 2 to 3 times weekly and covered 6 to 12 miles per hike.
    He and his wife took hikes together and not alone for safety.
    They had not seen a mountain lion before during previous hikes in the park.
    After his wife hit the lion with a log, she used a ballpoint pen to stab the lion in the eye.
    Since the attack, he and Nell have had their golden wedding anniversary (February 9, 2007).
