Why he might be annoying:

    He was a foppish social climber.
    Early in his career, he sent pseudonymous letters to fashion magazines recommending his work.
    He clashed with director George Cukor during the filming of 'My Fair Lady,' especially after he disrupted a day's shooting schedule to take publicity pictures of Audrey Hepburn.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was a self-taught photographer.
    His photos of victims of the London Blitz raised sympathy for the British in America during World War II.
    Actress Ruth Ford called him 'the essence of elegance.'
