The Resume

    (May 9, 1942- )
Recorded 'Sheila,' 'Everybody,' 'Sweet Pea,' 'Hooray for Hazel,' 'Dizzy' and 'Jam Up and Jelly Tight'
Elected to the Georgia Hall of Fame (1986) and recognized by the Rockabilly Hall of Fame

Why he might be annoying:

His first band, called The Satins, played college frat parties and high school dances.
His squeaky clean image made him an early '60s teen idol.
When he released 'Sheila' in 1960 it tanked (it hit pay dirt two years later).
When the '60s ended, the hits ended as well.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was influenced by Buddy Holly and said 'Sheila' was his spin on a favorite of his, 'Peggy Sue.'
He had a close friendship with Roy Orbison.
He developed a cult following in England during the mid-1960s and moved there for three years to capitalize.
He and Chris Montez toured the U.K. in March 1963 with the Fab Four opening for them.
He has two #1 songs on Billboard's U.S. Singles charts, four certified gold singles and has sold over 60 million records worldwide.
