Financier

The Resume

    (August 24, 1933-May 20, 2014)
    Born in Palma, Majorca, Spain
    Bavarian aristocrat/Merchant banker
Financial manager for the Rolling Stones (1968-2007)
Wrote the autobiography 'A Prince Among Stones' (2013)

Why he might be annoying:

When he was first approached about straightening out the Stones' finances, he had never heard of the band.
His assessments of their music included 'trite,' 'a bit of a bore' and 'dull as dishwater.'
He sent the Stones into tax exile from Britain to France.
He pioneered corporate sponsorship of rock tours when he sold advertising rights for the Stones' 1981 US tour to Jovan Musk.
He ticked off Mick Jagger by publishing his autobiography: 'Call me old-fashioned, but I don't think your ex-bank manager should be discussing your financial dealings and personal information in public.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was married to Josephine Lowry-Corry for 56 years.
He rescued the Stones from near bankruptcy, extracted them from tangled managerial and recording contracts, and turned them into a financial juggernaut.
He said his role with the band was 'a combination of bank manager, psychiatrist and nanny.'
He twice negotiated legal deals that kept Keith Richards from going to jail for drug possession.
He said, 'I felt that precisely because I was not a fan, I was able to view the band calmly, dispassionately, maybe even clinically -- though never without affection.'
