Won a Newbery Medal (1969)

Why he might be annoying:

He has a big nose.
He horrified his parents when he told them he wanted to be an author.
This was because he grew up poor and his parents haven't read books before.
He said: 'What I like most about writing is when I have finished writing. That's the best part of it.'
He also said: 'The happiest moment is always when I finish writing a book and don't have to work so hard for a little while.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He attended University of Paris.
He served in the US Army during WW II.
His 'The Chronicles of Prydain' series was inspired by Welsh mythology and the Mabinogion.
His books have inspired much affection and interest among readers, young and old.
He believes fantasy is one of many ways to express attitudes and feelings about humans and their relationships to each other.
His favorite authors are William Shakespeare, Victor Hugo, Charles Dickens, and Mark Twain.
