    Born in Marseilles, France
    Printmaker, painter and sculptor
    Worked for the journals 'La Caricature' and 'Le Charivari'
    Known for his caricatures of political figures

Why he might be annoying:

    He wanted to be remembered as a 'serious artist' rather than a caricaturist.
    An exhibition shortly before his death of his paintings attracted some critical attention but was a financial disaster, losing 10,000 francs.
    He died in debt and was buried in a pauper's grave.
    Ironically, his satires of the legal system became popular among lawyers.
