The Resume

    (January 31, 1942-February 19, 1994)
Born in Northwood, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom
Birth name was Michael Derek Elworthy Jarman
Directed 'Sebastiane' (1976), 'Jubilee' (1978), 'The Tempest' (1979), 'Caravaggio' (1986), 'The Last of England' (1988), 'War Requiem' (1989), 'Edward II' (1991), 'Wittgenstein' (1993) and 'Blue' (1993)
Directed videos for Marianne Faithful, The Smiths and The Pet Shop Boys

Why he might be annoying:

The homoeroticism of several of his films (notably 'Sebastiane' and 'Edward II') was controversial.
He explained the extensive nudity in 'Sebastiane' by saying, 'We couldn't afford costumes.'
The visual for 'Blue' consisted entirely of a blue screen.

Why he might not be annoying:

Commenting on his reputation as the enfant terrible of British cinema, he said, 'Shakespeare, the Sonnets, Caravaggio, Britten's Requiem -- what more traditional subject matter could a filmmaker take on?'
He made 'Blue' after he had gone blind from AIDS-related complications.
