    Nicknamed 'Mr. Babalu' for his signature song
    Also recorded the songs 'Bim Bam Bum,' 'Oye Negra,' and 'Rumba Rhapsody'

    His full name was the unwieldy Miguel Angel Eugenio Lazano Zacarias Izquierdo Valdes Hernandez.
    He had only six years of schooling.
    In the United States, his signature song is associated with Desi Arnaz.

    He was a good enough boxer to win the Cuban amateur championship in his weight class (1934).
    Despite Desi stealing his thunder in the States, he remained 'Mr. Babalu' in Latin America.
    He suffered a fatal heart attack while singing on stage at the Hotel Tequendama in Bogota, Columbia.
