Why he might be annoying:

    One of his nicknames was 'King Kong.'
    He played in the shadow of Bobby Jones until Jones retired in 1930.
    He got sick with a food poisoning infection upon his arrival to Detroit to see his brother, Mortie.
    His dysentery infection made him to be stuck on a low ranking in the 1934 U.S. Open until the final round of the tournament.
    He struggled and failed to win another major championship following his only U.S. Open victory.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He was the first golfer born in the western U.S. to secure a major championship victory.
    He had a short hospital stay for his food poisoning infection and was able to to compete in the 1934 U.S. Open.
    He continued in the 1934 U.S. Open as his brother Mortie withdrew from the tournament.
    He overcame his dysentery to beat Gene Sarazen by one stroke to secure the 1934 U.S. Open victory.
    He held the largest U.S. Open comeback, with eight shots in 36 holes, for 26 years until Arnold Palmer matched that feat in the 1960 U.S. Open.
    He instructed Babe Didrikson a short lesson before she swung a 240 yard shot following the 1932 Summer Olympics.
