Appeared on Broadway in the plays ‘Sweeney Todd’ (1924), ‘Diamond Lil’ (1928 - 29) and ‘Grand Hotel’ (1930 - 31)

She was typecast as thick-accented, ethnic villainesses.
Her IMDb bio described her as ‘severe-looking.’
It is disputed as to whether she immigrated to the US with her sister, in 1899, or with her parents, in 1910.

She was named after a sister who died in infancy.
She was part of the original Broadway cast of the hit play ‘Diamond Lil’ which went on to be the pre-code megahit ‘She Done Him Wrong’ with Mae West.
She held her own opposite West as the prostitution ring madam who gets accidentally knifed by Lady Lou in a brawl over Gilbert Roland’s character.
She was part of the most memorable scene in ‘Grand Hotel’ as the devoted personal maid to whom Greta Garbo says ‘I just want to be alone. I just want to be alone....’
She died at the Boston home of her parents from cancer only months after filming her last movie.
