The Resume

    (circa 1993- )
    Born in Washington
    Resided in Redmond, Washington
Student at Holy Family Parish School in Kirkland, Washington
Customer at Seattle- based Nordstrom department store in Bellevue, Washington
Advocated for the availability of girls' clothing with more body coverage by expressing her fashion concerns with Nordstrom executives (2004)

Why she might be annoying:

She was described as shy by others.
She had personal issues with girls' clothing styles which were considered trendy and popular by others of various ages.
In her letter to a Nordstrom manage regarding jeans, she complained that all the styles available at the store rode too low under her hips and the next larger jean size fell off her hips.
When Nordstrom sales clerks suggested to her that there was only one popular look for jean styles, Ella suggested that the store diversify its pants designs because she thought that clothing which exposed girls' navels and underwear made them look half naked.
She did not expect Nordstrom management to respond to her letter or concerns regarding revealing clothing fashions, and she was surprised to receive a reply.
The amount of media attention she received regarding her letter was ironic, considering the fact that Ella and her family did not watch much television, including the news.
Some people were critical of her advocacy for more modest girls' clothing at Nordstrom, suggesting that Ella lacked respect for some girls' desire to wear popular fashions and that she was not seeking out stores which sold clothing more suited to her personal taste.
She received more public attention than other girls who desired or advocated for more modest clothing in department stores.

Why she might not be annoying:

Her older sister's issues with fashion as well as Ella's inspired the Nordstrom letter, especially after Ella heard a Nordstrom clerk suggest that her sister buy a smaller size jean to achieve a popular but suggestive look.
She wrote Nordstrom without any influence from her parents, who did not know about her letter until she showed it to them after she finished writing it.
She impressed Nordstrom executives, including the company president, with her courteous and straightforward letter regarding her fashion concerns.
Nordstrom executives informed her that the company would consider offering modest clothing styles for girls and educate its employees on various fashion choices for young customers.
She credited her relationship with Jesus Christ and guidance from the Holy Spirit for giving her the boldness to express her concerns regarding fashion and advocate publicly for positive changes.
Her actions inspired other girls to express a desire for more modest fashions and also influenced the fashion industry to consider marketing more modest styles for girls.
She promoted modest clothing in her local area by modeling in special fashion shows hosted by conservative organizations.
