The Resume

    (circa May 2012- )
    Resides in Toronto, Ontario
    Rhesus macaques
    Known as the IKEA Monkey
Formerly owned by lawyer Yasmin Nakhuda
Nakhuda went to court to get Darwin back, claiming he had been taken from her illegally (May 30, 2013)
Court ruled that Darwin will not be returned to to his owner and will remain in an animal sanctuary (September 13, 2013)

Why he might be annoying:

As his owner was shopping, he escaped his crate and entered the store (December 9, 2012).
He was seized by Toronto's Animal Services after his IKEA appearance.
His owner was fined $240 as the city prohibits domestic monkey ownership.
He showered, ate and shared a bed with his former owner.

Why he might not be annoying:

You gotta admit: he is so darn adorable.
His stylish shearling coat made him a big attention grabber.
IKEA shoppers used their phones to snap pictures or shoot videos of him then uploaded the pics/videos on social media sites.
Many shoppers wanted to pet him.
His detainment by Animal Services left his owner distraught.
As of December 11, 2012, he was placed in a monkey sanctuary.
Since the incident, his image has went viral and he was Photoshopped onto other scenarios including a Victoria's Secret fashion show, an IKEA catalog photo and scenes from movies/television.
