When Sam Phillips first asked him to play with Elvis, his immediate response was, ‘Elvis Presley? What kind of name is that?’
He was briefly Elvis’ manager, but was outmaneuvered by Colonel Tom Parker.

Why he might not be annoying:

He started his own label, Fernwood Records, and produced the Top Five hit ‘Tragedy’ by Thomas Wayne (1959).
