Best known for his role as Donald Hollinger on the ABC TV sitcom 'That Girl' (1966-1971)
Also acted in the TV series 'It's a Man's World' (1962), 'Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.' (1965-66), 'Me and the Chimp' (1972), 'Good Time Harry' (1980) and 'Hail to the Chief' (1985)
Died of an aortic aneurysm at age 61
1997 movie 'As Good as It Gets' lists him as a dedicatee

Why he might be annoying:

He wanted to be a priest but chose acting instead.
He was twice divorced and had a third marriage annulled.
He was typecast as a funny boyfriend from his five years with 'That Girl' and found jobs hard to come by, bombing in several TV series.
He died five days before an all-star tribute for 'That Girl' transpired at L.A.'s Museum of Television and Radio.

Why he might not be annoying:

He made peace with his role in 'That Girl,' stating, 'People have a love for it. It's remarkable through the years that you get that kind of response.'
He took to directing and won an Emmy in 1989 for 'Outstanding Variety, Music or Comedy Program' for his work on 'The Tracey Ullman Show.'
He was scheduled to direct the big screen version of 'Bewitched' but died before filming started (and nine years for completion).
After he died, co-star Marlo Thomas said of him: 'Our show was called 'That Girl,' but we all knew 'that guy' was half the success. I loved him, and I will miss him for the rest of my life.'
