Why they might be annoying:

Suggs was temporarily kicked out of the band for spending too much time watching soccer instead of rehearsing.
Commenting on the skinheads who showed up at their concerts, Smash said, 'We don't care if people are in the NF [National Front, a far-right whites-only political party] as long as they're having a good time.'
Suggs called their 'Mad Not Mad' album 'a polished turd.'
They were one-hit wonders in the US.

Why they might not be annoying:

They had 17 Top Ten hits in Britain (including two appearances in the Top Ten by 'It Must Be Love').
Their Madstock reunion concert inspired such enthusiastic foot stomping by the audience that local residents called the police to report an earthquake (1992).
A show based on their hit 'Our House' won the Olivier Award for best new musical (2003).
