    Born in Meridian, Mississippi
    Recorded the singles 'The Snake' (1968), 'Show and Tell' (1974), 'La La Peace Song' (1974) and 'I've Got a Feeling (We'll Be Seeing Each Other Again)' (1976)

Why he might be annoying:

    He started singing professionally at age 12.
    He was fired from a job as a carhop waiter when the other servers complained that he got higher tips by singing to the customers.
    His song 'The Snake' was used in British ads for Lambrini pear cider.
    The master tapes for many of his songs were lost in a fire at his home studio.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He joined the Navy and sang with an enlisted men's choir.
    He was signed to Soul City Records after auditioning a cappella for owner/singer Johnny Rivers.
    His recording of 'Show and Tell' beat out a version by Johnny Mathis to top the charts.
    He said, 'If you do a thing well, whether it's soul, blues or rock, you can reach people of different tastes and please them all.'
