During the national team's memorable 1999 World Cup run, she only started one game.
She was unable to play for the team that won an Olympic gold medal due to an injury (2004).
She became estranged from her parents after college.

Why she might not be annoying:

She had what she describes as a 'tough' childhood.
She turned down Santa Clara's prestigious soccer program for a little known program in Portland.
She majored in social work at the University of Portland.
The University of Portland's women's soccer team reached the Final Four in her first year as an assistant coach (1998).
She was overshadowed by Mia Hamm, Julie Foudy and Brandi Chastain on the US Women's Soccer Team.
One of her best high school friends collapsed during soccer practice and died.
A year later, her other best friend was killed in a motorcycle accident.
She said of her boyfriend Charles, he was 'probably the first source of unconditional love I've ever had.' He died from prostate cancer.
She was given the key to the city of Escondido, California (her hometown) in 1996.
