The Resume

    (1966-1988)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
    Assembled by songwriter/producer Geoff Stephens (October 1, 1934- )
Recorded the single 'Winchester Cathedral' (1966)

Why they might be annoying:

They were not a real group but a bunch of session musicians brought together to record one song.
Sources differ on whether 'Winchester Cathedral' was sung by Stephens himself or session singer John Carter.
Whoever the vocalist was, he sang through a megaphone to emulate Rudy Vallee.
When it came time to create a touring band, Stephens tried unsuccessfully to hire the Bonzo Dog Band for the job.
The touring band's lead singer, Allen Klein, adopted the moniker 'Tristam, 7th Earl of Cricketwood.'

Why they might not be annoying:

'Winchester Cathedral' hit #4 in Britain and #1 in the US.
'Winchester Cathedral' won the Grammy for 'Best Contemporary (Rock and Roll) Recording.'
They made the most of their hit, playing Vegas and the cabaret circuit into the 80s.
