His only Broadway show, ‘Amour,’ closed after only 17 performances.
He said, ‘Modern music tends to bore me now.’

The Paris Conservatory waived its minimum age requirement and admitted him when he was ten.
He collaborated with a wide variety of artists, from Mikes Davis to Kiri Te Kanawa to Bjork.
Despite its short run, he was nominated for a Tony for Best Score for ‘Amour.’
He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame (1990).
He was named a Commander of the Legion of Honor (2016).
He said about winning Oscars, ‘Deep down, it doesn’t make you any better or worse as a composer. Your strengths or weaknesses remain unchanged.’
