Why he might be annoying:

He never became a household name like Enrico Caruso or Luciano Pavarotti.
He is a boring actor.
At 76, he tried to perform Verdi's Otello (an incredibly difficult role at any age), and it was a disaster.
One critic described his performance as 'weak, quavery, scratchy - the sound of an old, old man.'
He had to bow out halfway through the opera.
He later blamed the air conditioning for his terrible performance.

Why he might not be annoying:

Although Italian, he demonstrated against Axis powers during World War II and wound up in a Nazi P.O.W. camp.
He will not bad mouth fellow singers.
He says the life of a performer isn't as fun as it seems.
He is an accomplished voice teacher.
He runs a successful restaurant.
