The Resume

    (March 19, 1976- )
    Born in Oakdale, Minnesota
    Middle name is Michael
Police officer working in Minneapolis, Minnesota
Arrested and killed George Floyd outside a convenience store with three other officers (May 25, 2020)
Knelt on Floyd's neck for eight minutes 46 seconds
Fired and arrested along with the other three officers within a week of the incident (May 26 - 29)
Found guilty of second degree murder, and two lesser charges (April 20, 2021)

Why he might be annoying:

His nightclub boss described him as thuggish towards minority patrons.
He had been involved in three police shootings (one of them fatal).
There were up to 18 formal complaints to his record, two of which led to disciplinary action.
He knelt on Floyd's neck while arresting him over use of a counterfeit bill - Floyd was lying face down in handcuffs and crying out 'I can't breathe.'
Floyd died within the final two minutes of the ordeal.
He tried to claim that Floyd was resisting arrest at the time, but no surveillance footage corroborated this.
Footage of the incident went viral and set off a series of protests in the Twin Cities and across the rest of the United States.
Mayor Jacob Frey said he ‘failed in the most basic, human sense' as a police officer.
There were claims that he couldn't be racist because his wife was Asian-American. His wife divorced him a day after the Floyd incident.

Why he might not be annoying:

His last name sounds like a Lord of the Rings villain.
He allegedly knew Floyd when they both worked security at the same nightclub.
Bodycam footage did later show that Floyd was excited and hysterical during his arrest (granted not enough to warrant that kind of lethal force).
His actions sparked a national conversation about race and police brutality in America, which later went global.
His actions indirectly cost Amy Klobuchar the Vice Presidential nomination after it was revealed that she had declined to prosecute him for the shooting that killed Wayne Reyes.
An internet conspiracy theory claiming that he was a crisis actor was debunked.
