Why he might be annoying:

    His nickname was 'Mr. Zero.'
    He turned down a roster spot with the Detroit Red Wings, due to his personal disdain for Jack Adams.
    He was initally given the cold shoulder by Bruins fans, who didn't like the fact the team traded away Tiny Thompson, in order to elevate him to the starter's role.
    He failed to replicate the same degree of success he had, prior to serving in World War II.
    He suffered from homesickness, which prompted him to request a trade to Chicago for his final season.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He never considered playing any other position, outside of goaltender as a child.
    He recorded six shutouts in his first seven NHL games.
    He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
    He was regarded as being one of the greatest American-born goaltenders to play in the NHL, prior to his contemporaries.
    He held the Bruins franchise record for career playoff victories, prior to being surpassed by Gerry Cheevers.
