    He said he treasured the time at Oxford that he spent studying under C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkein.
    He served in the RAF during World War II.
    After portraying Henry V at Stratford-on-Avon (1959), he became fascinated with the medieval longbow, becoming such an expert that he was consulted by the archeologists who raised the 16th-century warship Mary Rose.
    Peter Davison said he learned more from Hardy than any other actor he worked with.
    He said about the Harry Potter films, ‘It was great fun while it lasted, the boys and girls were all absolutely splendid. I had a ball fooling around with old friends like Maggie Smith.’
