The Resume

    (January 1969- )
    Born in Kentucky
    Lawyer; Columnist for National Review
Major in the US Army Reserve; Iraq War Veteran
Former president of the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (2004-2005)
Author of 'A Season for Justice: Defending the Rights of the Christian Church, Home, and School,' 'Home and Away: A Story of Family in a Time of War,' and 'The Rise of ISIS: A Threat We Can’t Ignore'
Married to author and prominent ghostwriter, Nancy French
Publicly teased an Independent run for President, as a #NeverTrump alternative to presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump (May 31, 2016)

Why he might be annoying:

He's a Rockefeller Republican who writes columns for an elite news journal.
He went on record calling Planned Parenthood 'the nation’s largest abortionist — the killer of millions of children.'
He came to national attention when conservative commentator Bill Kristol tweeted that an 'impressive' independent candidate 'with a strong team and a real chance' would ride into the 2016 race to defeat both Trump and Hillary in November.
Speculation as to who the 'mystery candidate' could be grew as Kristol dodged questions about it on his trip to Israel. The revelation that it was French drew a collective 'who?'
Soon after the announcement, footage surfaced of an interview given by French months earlier admitting that while he disapproved of Trump's approach, he would vote for him in the general over Clinton.
He eventually came around to reevaluating his position - publishing an article titled 'Why I Changed My Mind and Joined the #NeverTrump Movement.'
The article was searing and prone to hyperbolic charges, reading 'I hadn’t yet seen — or had been unwilling to believe — the full extent of his contempt for the truth, his fondness for far-left conspiracy theories, and his sheer malice.'
Even die-hard #NeverTrump acolytes expressed disappointment in the choice, mainly due to French's lack of name recognition.
RedState's Erik Erickson, wrote: 'Let’s be realistic about this... [he] has, charitably, 0.1 percent name ID. He will have to raise at least $250 million, dedicating almost all of that to ballot access fights and potential legal challenges to extend deadlines.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He earned a law degree from Harvard University, in 1994.
He stepped down as president of Foundation for Individual Rights to join the Army Reserves during the Iraq War.
He was deployed to Iraq in 2007, serving in the Diyala Province as Squadron Judge Advocate.
He was awarded the Bronze Star, in 2007.
He adopted a child from Ethiopia after returning from active duty.
He was allegedly inspired to join the army after reading a newspaper article about a wounded soldier who was the same age as he was.
He accused the Trump campaign of intimidating him and of threatening his wife to prevent him from running.
He announced that while he seriously considered entering the presidential race, that he had decided he did not have the name recognition or financial support to mount a viable Presidential run.
If the switch were flipped and he somehow became the President against all odds, he'd probably do fine.
