He was uncertain about whether or not he wanted to compete for the United States or Russia in international competition.
He spent the majority of his draft eligible season on the injury reserve list.
He played on five teams in a two year window, following his trade from the Canadiens.
He was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes, only to be flipped to the Toronto Maple Leafs two days later (February 15, 2021).

Why he might not be annoying:

He was born in Milwaukee, when his father, Alexander was a member of the IHL's Milwaukee Admirals.
He chose to play for the United States in international competition, and his family relocated to the country in order to make him eligible to play.
He was the youngest player in Canadiens history to play a full season in nearly 30 years.
He earned a Medal of Honor by the National Assembly of Quebec for his philanthropic contributions in Montreal (2015).
