The Resume

    (May 12, 1914-September 18, 2010)
    Born in Buffalo, New York
Hollywood gossip columnist for the Associated Press (1948-68) and Los Angeles Herald-Examiner (1968-86)
Wrote 'Hollywood Is A Four-Letter Town' (1977), 'Made In Hollywood' (1978) and 'How Sweet It Is: The Jackie Gleason Story' (1987)
Cameo appearances in numerous Hollywood films

Why he might be annoying:

In most of his film appearances, he played a reporter. (What a stretch.)
After hearing that an ambulance had been sent to Clark Gable's house, he outraced it to the hospital to get a scoop on the actor's heart attack.
He pretended to be a coroner to get past the police barricade and interview Lana Turner about her mobster boyfriend Johnny Stompanato being stabbed to death by her daughter Cheryl Crane.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a code-breaker for the US Navy during World War II.
He was the only actor to appear in all five films of the original 'Planet of the Apes' series (although he got an on-screen credit for only one of them).
Clint Eastwood said, 'Jim always made you feel like he was a pal looking to hang out.'
