Recorded 'Pyromania' and 'Hysteria,' the biggest rock albums of the 80's

Why he might be annoying:

He smoked, even while onstage.
He drank excessively.
When his drinking problem started in his early 20's, he tried to hide his addiction from his parents by getting the band's lead singer Joe Elliott to pose as a relative for group meetings at the rehabilitation center.
After a successful tour for their multi-million selling album, Hysteria, he was found unconscious and almost comatose in a gutter with a blood alcohol level double of what killed Led Zepplin's John Bonham. As a result he had to be hospitalized.
His excessive drinking led to a leave of absence from his band, a breakup of his engagement and, ultimately his death.
At the time of his death, his blood alcohol level was three times the amount of the British legal driving limit. He was 30 years old.
In his absence, Def Leppard's other guitarist, Phil Collen, had to play Steve's guitar tracks for the band's fifth album.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was three years into a four-year carpenter apprenticeship when his band signed a record deal.
His guitar skills defined the band's sound and influenced aspiring guitarists in the 80's.
He and fellow guitarist Phil Collen were nicknamed 'The Terror Twins.'
He grew up in a working class family.
As a preteen, he took classical guitar lessons.
