    Appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson
    Regular on 'The ABC Comedy Hour' (1972) as part of the Kopykats troupe
    Acted in 'Oh Dad, Poor Dad, Mamma's Hung You in the Closet and I'm Feelin' So Sad (1967)' and 'Trouble in Mind (1985)'

Why he might be annoying:

    He abused heroin.
    He was arrested in a drug raid in 1958 and was on probation for three years.
    His show 'Half the George Kirby Hour' only lasted twenty two episodes.
    He was arrested for selling an ounce of heroin to an undercover police officer (1977).

Why he might not be annoying:

    He suffered from Parkinson’s disease.
    He did spot on impressions of John Wayne, Jackie Gleason and Ella Fitzgerald.
    He was the first African-American comedian to open at the Copacabana nightclub in New York, in 1960.
    He was sentenced to ten years after the drug conviction, but was released on good behavior after less than three years.
    His last public appearance was at a benefit organized by his friends (among them Della Reese and Debbie Allen) to help pay his medical bills. He died four months later.
    Google searches for his name spiked after Nancy Pelosi unintentionally uttered his name when speaking about the death of George Floyd (2020).
