Why they might be annoying:

They spent the 50s and 60s bouncing between Chicago's two leading R&B labels, with two stints at Vee-Jay Records and three at Chess Records and its subsidiaries.
Their two biggest Chess hits, 'Stay in My Corner' and 'Oh What a Night,' were remakes of their two biggest Vee-Jay hits.
They tried to jump onto the disco bandwagon in the 70s.

Why they might not be annoying:

An accident in their station wagon while touring lacerated Junior's larynx, permanently altering his voice, and nearly cost Mickey McGill a leg (1958).
In the early 60s, they fine-tuned their vocal harmonies working as an opening act and background singers for Dinah Washington and Ray Charles.
Between Carter joining in 1960 and his 2009 death, the group went nearly 50 years without any changes in their line-up.
They served as creative consultants for Robert Townsend's film 'The Five Heartbeats.' (1991)
A song they recorded for the movie, 'A Heart Is a House for Love,' was an unexpected hit, making them one of the few groups to put singles on the Billboard chart in five different decades.
