The Resume

    (1955- )
    Born in Manhattan, New York
    1958 Line-up
Johnny Maestro (birth name John Mastrangelo; May 7, 1939-March 24, 2010), lead singer
    J.T. Carter
    Harold Torres
    Talmadge ‘Tommy’ Gough
Recorded the singles ‘My Juanita’ (1957), ’16 Candles’ (1958), ‘Six Nights a Week’ (1959), ‘The Angels Listened In’ (1959), ‘Step By Step’ (1960) and ‘Trouble in Paradise’ (1960)

Why they might be annoying:

Luther Vandross’ sister Patricia was an original member, but left before the group got a recording contract.
Before settling on Maestro, Johnny tried Masters and Mastro as last names.
After Maestro left for a solo career (1961), the group continued, but the hits dried up.
The John Hughes film ‘Sixteen Candles’ used a cover of the title song by the Stray Cats instead of the Crests’ original.

Why they might not be annoying:

They were discovered while singing in the subway.
They were one of the first successful multi-racial bands: two African-American members, one Puerto Rican, one Italian.
’16 Candles’ hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was certified gold by the RIAA.
They were inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame (2004).
