Why he might be annoying:

Although he appeared in many movies, he is best known as the cranky landlord in the sitcom 'Three's Company.'
He disliked being typecast as Mr. Roper.
He has been described as having droopy eyes and dyspeptic disposition.
His spin-off sitcom 'The Ropers' lasted only one season.
He was a resident of the Motion Picture and Television Fund's retirement home.
He chose Hollywood over New York City.
He's been married three times.
He and Karen Weingard adopted a baby boy, then divorced.
He died only several weeks after his cancer diagnosis.
