Why he might be annoying:

He dropped the 'e' from George to get more attention.
He skipped so many classes in high school his teachers suggested he just drop out, so he did.
He didn't want his cop role, stating: 'I'm from the streets and there's just no way to escape the policeman when you're in the streets. It's part of your survival. When I used to see them coming I'd respond a certain way. I just didn't like cops.' He took the role anyway.
He divorced actress Tyne Daly after 24 years of marriage.

Why he might not be annoying:

He grew up poor in The Bronx.
When acting work wasn't there he turned to directing and has directed episodes of TV shows such as 'Hill Street Blues,' 'Miami Vice,' 'Cagney & Lacey,' 'Charlie's Angels,' 'Magnum P.I.' and one of the six episodes of cult classic 'Police Squad!'
He won a directing Emmy for an episode of 'Cagney & Lacey' starring his then wife (1986).
In 1987 he produced the 'Vietnam War Story' for HBO which won two Cable ACE Awards.
His daughter Kathryne Dora Brown is an actress who's had recurring roles in the TV series 'Promised Land' and 'Judging Amy.'
