The Resume

    (March 31, 1906- )
    National Collegiate Athletic Association
Governs intercollegiate sports in the United States
Competitions are divided into three divisions (four in football)
Originally named the Intercollegiate Athletic Association of the United States (IAAUS)
    Changed name to NCAA (1910)
    Headquarters in Indianapolis

Why NCAA might be annoying:

It has been criticized for emphasizing a college student's athletic accomplishments more than their academic ones.
Even though it holds championships in 22 different sports, most people only know it for college football and basketball.
It ignored women's athletics until the early 1980's.
Because it doesn't run a post season in I-A football, there is an outdated bowl-and-polls system that produces disputed champions.
Its eligibility and recruiting requirements are very picky. If a coach buys a hamburger for a player, that's considered an NCAA violation.
Those rules have made many athletes leave college early or skip college to turn professional.
It calls its baseball tournament the College World Series, even though only U.S. colleges compete in it.
Video games based on its sports can't use the real name of star college players due to NCAA rules.
After issuing an edict demanding no member college may use a Native American nickname they allowed a few exceptions. The Chief of the Seminoles wrote them a letter saying he was not offended by Florida State University's nickname of the Seminoles. UNC-P was allowed to use Braves as they were a school founded by Native Americans and is heavily attended by members of the Lumbee Tribe.

Why NCAA might not be annoying:

It was created as a result of the serious injuries and deaths that were occurring in collegiate football.
At the time, their was a call to ban college football, so these rules helped saved the sport.
It takes great pains to ensure that collegiate athletes are amateurs and college coaches and presidents aren't paying them off.
Its basketball tournament is among the most popular sporting events in the country and is referred as 'March Madness' ending with 'The Final Four.'
March Madness led to the annual March bracket office pool craze.
Many top professional athletes began at NCAA-sanctioned competitions.
It runs several commercials that emphasizes the student in the 'student-athlete' and to persuade those not to gamble on college sports.
They hired Myles Brand, who fired former Indiana University basketball coach Bob Knight, as their president.
