    He had a scruffy looking appearance.
    He had a feminine birth name as his actual name was Jackie.
    Despite being active in the music business during the 1970's, he didn't get his break until the mid 1980's.
    He frequently drove his vehicle at dangerous speeds while growing up in rural Kentucky.
    He was considered stubborn as he often ignored advice from record executives over control of his albums.
    He originally recorded 'On The Other Hand' and 'Nobody in His Right Mind Would've Left Her,' which would go on to become #1 hits for both Randy Travis and George Strait respectively.
    He was a lifelong alcoholic, and would often drink underage while performing in nightclubs.
    He frequently denied having a drinking problem.
    His wife, Lorrie Morgan, would often tie his leg to hers before going to bed so he wouldn't be able to sneak a drink during the middle of the night.
    When he was unable to consume alcohol, he would often consume perfume and nail polish in lieu of booze.
    He had a blood-alcohol level of .477 at the time of his death.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He performed in a talent show contest at age 15, which led to his break in music.
    He, along with his brother Dwight, served as band members to the Stanley Brothers band.
    He recorded 19 #1 songs on the Billboard Country Charts during the 1980's.
    He adopted Lorrie's daughter from a previous marriage, upon marrying Lorrie.
    He was successful in lobbying record executives in allowing him to have creative control over his albums.
    His signature song 'When You Say Nothing At All' went #1 on the country charts (1988).
    Shortly after his passing, many country artists wore black ribbons in his honor.
    He was considered one of country music's most influential people during the 1980's.
