    He is not considered a team player, which angered some of his U.S. teammates.
    In 2006, he decided not to compete in the speedskating team event, because it would interfere with his preparation for the 1000 meter event.
    He did not qualify for the short track events at the 2006 Winter Olympics.
    He participates in a sport that draws little attention.
    His favorite comedian is Tom Green.

    He is the first African-American to ever win an individual Gold Medal at the Winter Olympics (February 18, 2006).

    He credits almost all of his success to his mother.
