The Resume

He was away from the major leagues for a five year period, where he played in the minors and the independent leagues.
He played on six teams in a three year window when he returned to the majors.
He asked for his release from the Braves, after he was told he was going to get sent back to the minor leagues
His decision to ask for his release from the Braves cost him a chance to win a World Series ring (1995).
His tenure with Texas lasted nine games, and his major career ended afterwards.

Why he might not be annoying:

He got his major league start playing for the Angels.
He persevered and grinded it out in the minors and independent leagues before returning to the majors.
He enjoyed the reliever's role, as it gave him more freedom to pitch more games than in a starting role.
He holds the distinction of having a perfect pitching line against future Hall of Fame inductees Roberto Alomar, George Brett and Alan Trammell.
His son Matt had a brief stint with the Milwaukee Brewers in 2014, which made them the 217th father/son tandem to reach the major leagues.
