Boxer

The Resume

    (July 1, 1955- )
    Born in Turnersville, New Jersey
Professional boxer and Light-Heavyweight champion of the world between 9/15/78 and 4/14/79
Real name: Michael Albert De Piano
Retired with a professional record of 44 wins (27 by knockout), 7 losses (4 by KO) and 3 draws
    AKA 'The Jewish Bomber'
Charter member of the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame
    Active between 1973 and 1983

Why he might be annoying:

In order to make himself more marketable, he used his Jewish mother's last name and adopted the nickname 'The Jewish Bomber' despite being an Italian and Catholic.
He wasn't a particularly hard puncher, didn't have good natural endurance, (and didn't always train like he should), and wasn't as physically strong as many of his opponents.
His skills virtually disappeared after his winning the title, and after losing it, he never again contended for the title.
He blew his first title shot when he failed to train as he should and lost by TKO to underdog Yaqui Lopez, setting back his shot at then Light-Heavyweight titlist Victor Galindez for a couple of years.
He fought his first 22 fights (all wins!) while underage.
He also sometimes went by the retarded nickname, 'The Kosher Butcher.'
He has a tattoo of the Star of David despite the fact Jewish law forbids tattoos!
Long after retirement, he blamed his manager and trainer for his career not working out as well as it could have despite both men having great success with other fighters.

Why he might not be annoying:

When he finally did get his title shot, he made the most of it; upsetting and becoming the first man to stop the legendarily tough champion, Victor Galindez.
As was tradition, he gave Galindez a rematch (which was delayed by two months when Galindez pulled out over the neutrality of the judges while Rossman was waiting in the ring!) and lost by TKO after breaking his hand and disgracefully did not get the rematch that he deserved and had granted to Galindez.
He had virtually flawless basic skills and possessed a sharp right hand counterpunch that repeatedly caught opponents by surprise.
He was a clean fighter who was respected and liked by other fighters.
He was a popular TV fighter in the seventies, due in large part to his adopting his 'Jewish Bomber' identity.
At his very best, he was being considered for a shot at Muhammad Ali.
Unlike the majority of fighters, he went out on a winning note, winning his last five fights.
