    Lead singer in the folk trio The Limeliters (1959-63)
    Solo recorded the single ‘Baby the Rain Must Fall’ (1965)

Why he might be annoying:

    He was a one-hit wonder.
    He recorded three albums of Rod McKuen songs.
    He provided the voice of the Minstrel of Gondor in the Rankin/Bass misadaptation of ‘The Return of the King,’ singing ‘Frodo of the Nine Fingers and the Ring of Doom.’
    He was married four times, divorced three times.
    Late in life, he was a Kenny Rogers look-alike.

Why he might not be annoying:

    He bought his first guitar the day after attending his first Woody Guthrie concert.
    He served with the Army in Korea as a code breaker and radio operator before being transferred to an entertainment unit.
    In the mid-60s, he sold his luxury automobiles and several properties and used the money to establish a school for disadvantaged children in southern California: ‘I’ve always wanted to teach. I got into entertainment by accident.’
    He lost his singing voice after an emergency tracheotomy (2010).
