Why they might be annoying:

'Lambada' failed to make the US Top 40, peaking at #46 on the pop charts.
The lambada was hyped to death, producing a quick backlash in the U.S., making Kaoma the Los Del Rio of 1989.
'Lambada' was plagiarized from a song by Bolivian pop group Los Kjarkas.

Why they might not be annoying:

It was a truly international group with members from Brazil, Guadeloupe and Martinique.
They recorded songs in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
'Lambada' sold five million copies worldwide, topped the charts in ten countries and was #1 on Billboard's Hot Latin Tracks chart for seven weeks.
