Originally an anonymous male informant to Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein during their investigation of the Watergate scandal

Why he might be annoying:

He was a stool pigeon.
He didn't have the guts to come forward and let his identity be known.
His pseudonym was taken from the popular porn move of that time 'Deep Throat' starring Linda Lovelace.
When his identity was revealed, it was almost a disappointment, as most people never heard of William Mark Felt.

Why he might not be annoying:

He held his secret identity for more than thirty years.
He followed his conscience.
He was instrumental in bringing about the fall of the Nixon administration.
Trying to guess his identity was a national pastime for thirty years.
Speculations to his identity had included Alexander Haig, Dianne Sawyer and Gerald Ford.
Woodward said he would not reveal Deep Throat's identity until his death.
