Poet

The Resume

    (March 31, 1621-August 16, 1678)
Wrote 'Miscellaneous Poems (published posthumously, 1678)'

Why he might be annoying:

He was a professional politician, and only wrote poetry in his spare time.
He flip-flopped on practically every issue in Parliament.
He never married, leading some to believe he was gay.
For a man (even a 17th-century one), his hair was long and luxurious.

Why he might not be annoying:

He worked as a spy for England in his youth.
As a Member of Parliament, he argued for religious tolerance.
    He loved to travel.
When the poet John Milton went blind, Marvell wrote down some of his poems for him.
Some believe he was poisoned by Jesuits he had mocked in his writings.
After he died, his housekeeper pretended she was his widow so she could keep his house and money.
