Why she might be annoying:

    She was a shy farm girl.
    She is the youngest of five children.
    Her mother concentrated on teaching her to clean.
    She cared for her invalid brother prior to the Civil War and that was her only medical knowledge.
    She once suffered from emotional and physical exhaustion.
    She died of complications from a cold.
    She received criticism of her leadership style of the Red Cross, forcing her to resign (1904).
    She was a vegetarian.

Why she might not be annoying:

    She was born on Christmas and was gypped out of birthday gifts.
    She enjoyed horseback riding, military affairs instilled by her father, caring for others and current events.
    Her siblings taught her several subjects and when she entered school at age four, she was above her peers.
    She became a teacher at age fifteen.
    She opened a free school and acquired approximately six hundred students.
    She worked at the United States Patent Office before quitting to volunteer at the start of the Civil War.
    She distributed bandages, socks, and supplies to aid wounded soldiers.
    Former United States President Abraham Lincoln gave her permission after the war to start a letter-writing campaign to search for missing soldiers.
    She worked with the suffragist movement.
    In Europe, she learned of the Treaty of Geneva that twelve nations had signed, but the United States had not.
    Upon her return to the United States (1873), she started her crusade for the 'Treaty of Geneva' and 'Red Cross.'
    She spent time in a New York spa to improve her health before her efforts gained the United States signature on the 'Geneva Agreement' (1882).
    Her estate is now the Clara Barton Camp, which is used to benefit diabetic children.
