Why he might be annoying:

He was a four-year-old model.
He formed his first unofficial group before his teens and his second – Tom and the Tornadoes – the following year.
He retained the Shondells name for a subsequent group.
Had it not been for the interest of a Pittsburgh disc jockey who heard ‘Hanky Panky,’ he might very well have become an afterthought.

Why he might not be annoying:

He was tapped by Hubert Humphrey to head the Youth Affairs commission for his 1968 Presidential campaign.
His 20th-birthday present? ‘Mirage’ made it into the Billboard Hot 100!
While he loved ‘Mony Mony,’ he didn’t want to be tagged as a bubble gum artist.
He worked with fellow Roulette label artists Alive-N-Kickin’.
He formed his own record label (Aura).
He was named a Favorite Son by the Michigan State Legislature (which he considers his hometown state).
