Vocalist

The Resume

    (September 10, 1945- )
Wrote and sung the theme song for the TV series 'Chico & The Man'
    Recorded 'Feliz Navidad'

Why he might be annoying:

He's one of 11 siblings, all boys
He learned to play the accordion before learning guitar.
He dropped out of high school.
Three of his albums from the 60's have self-serving titles; 'The Voice and Guitar of José Feliciano,' 'Feliciano!' and 'The Fantastic Feliciano.'
He has only one Top 40 hit, a cover version of The Doors 'Light My Fire.' (1968)
He sang a highly controversial Latin-jazz version of the national anthem during the 1968 World Series, criticized by traditionalists. (no 'José can you see' puns please).
This created an onslaught of other vocalist personally stylizing the national anthem at the opening of sporting events.
He sometimes is billed by the presumptuous single name 'Feliciano.'

Why he might not be annoying:

Congenital glaucoma has left him permanently blind since birth.
He's won 6 Grammys, including one for best new artist (1969).
He's made guest appearances on such TV shows as 'Kung Fu,' 'McMillen & Wife' and, naturally, 'Chico & The Man.'
His recording of the holiday classic 'Feliz Navidad' has become a Christmas tradition. ASCAP has named this song among the '25 Greatest Holiday Songs of the Century.'
He was afforded a private audience with Pope John Paul II.
He has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and its Puerto Rican counterpart.
1996 was a big year for him. He received Billboard Magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award. New York City honored him by re-naming a public school in East Harlem, 'The Jose Feliciano Performing Arts School.' He had a small part in the hit movie 'Fargo.'
He does a great deal of charity work, including Life Scan's Latinos with diabetes program.
He received a Doctor of Humane Letters degree from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Connecticut, for his musical and humanitarian contributions (2001).
