Why Oklahoma might be annoying:

    The Chickasaw, Cherokee, Choctaw, Creek and Seminole tribes were forced to move to Oklahoma, which was called 'Indian Territory.'
    The state looks like a meat cleaver.
    More than fifty-five different languages were spoken in Oklahoma.
    The western half was Oklahoma Territory and the eastern half was Indian Territory. Both territories were refused admission to the United States, so they merged and were accepted as a single state.
    An electrical fire killed 38 mental patients at Oklahoma State Hospital (April 13, 1918).
    Temperatures range from -27ºF (-33ºC) (January 18, 1930) to 120ºF (49ºC) (July 26, 1943).
    They suffer fatal tornadoes and dust storms.
    The first automatic parking meter was installed in Oklahoma City (July 16, 1935).
    Prohibition was in effect for 51 years in Oklahoma (officially ended April 7, 1959).
    NAACP Youth Council began sit-ins at Oklahoma City lunch counters (August 19, 1963).
    Oklahoma City was the FAA's six month test site to see people's reactions to sonic booms (February 4, 1964).
    Jerry Parks, Oklahoma's defensive back was charged with shooting a teammate (January 13, 1989).
    A woman was assaulted and raped in room of Oklahoma state football player (January 21, 1989).
    Oklahoma's linebacker, Mark Van Keirsblilck assaults an Oklahoma graduate student (January 27, 1989).
    A truck bomb at Federal Building in Oklahoma City, killed 168 & injures 500 (April 19, 1995). The FBI arrested Timothy McVeigh & charge him with bombing the Oklahoma City Federal building (April 21, 1995).

    TV series 'Hec Ramsey,' 'Cimarron City,' 'O.K. Crackerby' and 'Torkelsons' were set in Oklahoma
    News analysts Douglas Edwards, Paul Harvey and Bill Moyers were born in Oklahoma.
    Mickey Mantle, Bobby Murcer, Will Rogers, Lon Chaney, Jr., Van Heflin, Jennifer Jones, Dan Rowan, James Garner, Darla Hood, Rue McClanahan, Cleavon Little, Molly Bee, Anita Bryant, E J Peaker, Jimmy Webb, Cindy Pickett, Mary Kay Place, Alfre Woodard, Ron Howard, Garth Brooks, Lynn Herring, Vince Gill, Suzy Amis and Joe Carter were born in Oklahoma.
    The Oklahoma land rush officially started (April 22, 1889) but many arrived 'sooner,' thus the nickname.
    Rodgers & Hammerstein's 'Oklahoma!,' premiered successfully on Broadway (March 30, 1943).
