The Resume

    (July 22, 1881-September 4, 1944)
    Born in London, United Kingdom
Also published under her married name, Margery Williams Blanco
Best known for the children's book 'The Velveteen Rabbit' (1922)

Why she might be annoying:

Her novels aimed at an adult audience did not sell.
Her children's books have been criticized as too sentimental.
Several of her books were saddled with absurdly long subtitles. (Example: 'Poor Cecco: The Wonderful Story of a Wonderful Wooden Dog Who Was the Jolliest Toy in the House Until He Went Out to Explore the World')

Why she might not be annoying:

Her daughter Pamela illustrated several of her books.
Her horror novels 'The Thing in the Woods,' written under the pseudonym Harper Williams, may have influenced H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Dunwich Horror.' (He was definitely familiar with the story, having written a poem titled, 'On 'The Thing in the Woods' by Harper Williams.'
Her World War II adventure book 'Forward Commandos!' (1944) had a black US soldier as a protagonist, a rarity in literature at the time.
