Why he might be annoying:

Upon being elected Pope, he told his brother, 'Since God has given us the Papacy, let us enjoy it.'
He traveled about Rome at the head of a parade featuring jesters, panthers and a white elephant.
After Cardinal Alfonso Petrucci allegedly plotted to assassinate him, he lured Petrucci back to Rome under promise of safe passage. When Petrucci arrived, he was arrested, tortured and executed.
Other cardinals who allegedly had participated in the assassination plot were spared in return for paying massive fines.
Many suspected he made up the assassination plot in order to extort money from the cardinals.
He endorsed burning heretics.
Martin Luther said, 'The heathen emperor Tiberius is nevertheless an angel in comparison with the present court of Rome.'

Why he might not be annoying:

He was a patron of Raphael and Michelangelo.
He lavished money on charities, including hospitals, retirement homes and convents.
He tried to prevent the looting of ancient monuments for building materials.
