Why he might be annoying:

He had extreme phobias: he was afraid to drive or be driven in a car, he was afraid of being in deep water (he once got sea-sick just by standing on a dock), he was afraid of being inside of an airplane, he was terrified of heights, and he was afraid of dogs, even though he had a dog.
He would only ride on trains to get across the country.
He used to play blackface with Moe during their vaudeville acts in the early 1920's.
He was replaced by Joe Besser.

Why he might not be annoying:

Most people believe he replaced Curly as the third stooge, but he actually was in the act before the Three Stooges even began to do shorts for Columbia Pictures, and before Curly began to act.
He is the real life brother of Moe and Curly.
Shemp loved spectator sports and felt the more aggressive the better, it was probably a form of release for his fear and tension.
