The Resume

    (March 11, 1989- )
    Airs on FOX
Filmed on location with the men and women of LAAAAAW enforcement
    600th Episode aired April 23, 2005
    Theme is 'Bad Boys'

Why Cops might be annoying:

The producers seem to favor the western and southern United States.
FOX plugged it's ride along's in NYC and L.A. weeks before they aired, and when they did air, nothing spectacular happened.
Many officers ham it up for the camera.
It spawned a lot of inferior copycat police reality shows.
Running out of original material, it has begun piecing together old shows, and giving them new titles like, 'Bad Girls,' 'Shots Fired,' and 'COPS at Mardi Gras.'
It begs the question if the officers patience and courtesy towards suspects would be the same if the camera's weren't rolling.
Some complain that it re-enforces racial, cultural, and regional stereotypes.
The Black Panthers claim it is 'racist propaganda, designed to further demonize the black man in the white man's eyes.'
It has been criticized for only featuring petty crimes by blue-collar people (especially shirtless guys with mullets)!
The male suspects that are not shirtless are wearing 'wife beaters' (tank tops).

Why Cops might not be annoying:

Burt Lancaster narrated the pilot episode.
It has a catchy theme, that even spent some time on the music charts in the mid-90's.
It shows that rural and small town police officers can have it just as rough as big city cops.
It sometimes shows bad guys getting what they deserve, (i.e. tasered, maced, or subdued by police dogs.)
It gives civilians some idea of the stress and danger of police work.
Some suspects tell hilarious lies a 5 year-old child can spot.
It filmed a series of episodes in London.
In it's 600+ episodes, it has shown some of the most precarious situations, trivial disputes, and funniest predicaments people can manage to get themselves into.
An episode featuring a cross dressing male truck driver that was robbed was voted one of the 10 funniest moments on TV by VH-1.
It reminds you that, 'Suspects are innocent until proven guilty, in a court of LAAAAAW.'
